Meet Yumiko Kodama
Leadership & Transition Coach

Hi, I'm Yumi. I help accomplished professionals get unstuck, feel more energized and less stressed.

I’m based in Tokyo where I provide 1-on-1 coaching and help international and Japanese-based companies find clarity and make more impact by training their leaders to be more engaged, motivated and empowered.

Before becoming an iPEC and ICF accredited professional coach, I had a 20-year corporate career which led to a Senior Director role at Marriott International. That experience has given me insights into the unique issues and stressors that keep international professionals and expats from feeling in control of their lives.

CAREER SUMARRY

I was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan.

completed my higher education in Hotel Management at Sheffield Hallam University (UK) in 1998 and pursued my international career for over 20 years at multinational corporations, including Fortune 100/500 companies, as a specialist for the Asia-Pacific region and key markets such as Japan and Korea. My career has taken me to various overseas locations including London, Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

My education and career have helped me cultivate a global mindset. I speak both Japanese and English fluently and am an advocate for diversity, inclusion, and female empowerment.

In my early career as a senior leader of loyalty program management, operation, and marketing centred on the travel and hotel industry, I led several high-profile projects and designed innovative programs that accelerated customer loyalty.

My other expertise includes public relations, brand management and strategic partnership business with liked-minded companies from other industries.

During my career break in 2020, I was inspired to learn about coaching in depth while helping my friends who were struggling with work-related challenges and transitions. I then joined Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching’s renowned professional coaching program, became a certified professional coach and commenced my coaching practice in February 2021 in Tokyo.
